# The Border Management Authority anticipates over six-million border crossings this festive season. Commissioner Michael Masiapato highlights plans to combat cross-border crime and illegal immigration, while warning about potential gender-based violence at borders. The authority, partnering with Social Development, aims to support vulnerable women and children. Masiapato says Home Affairs has also extended operating hours at select ports to ease congestion:
# MK Party member of Parliament, Mzwanele Manyi, has dismissed EFF leader Julius Malema’s legal threats to seize former president Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla home over unpaid legal fees. The dispute follows tensions between the EFF and MK Party after several former EFF members joined MK. Manyi stated that Zuma’s property is under the Ingonyama Trust and cannot be attached:
# The DA has revealed that service providers assisting Health departments have filed fraudulent medico-legal claims. These include 51 false claims worth over ten-billion-rand in the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal. According to the DA’s Michele Clarke, a law firm allegedly embezzled 4.4-million-rand from a 9.3-million-rand settlement owed to a cerebral palsy victim, Sfundo Hlongwane. Clarke says with 108-billion-rand in medico-legal liabilities, the DA calls for stricter oversight to protect victims and public healthcare funds.
# More than 50 people are feared dead after clashes between fans and a stampede at a soccer match in southeast Guinea. The match between Labe and Nzerekore was the final of a tournament in honour of the West African country’s military leader, Mamady Doumbouya. A local government official told Reuters violence broke out over a contested goal. Videos shared online show several children spotted among the people on the ground, while images show fans scrambling over walls.
# Cricket: An Australian Test cap worn by legendary batter Don Bradman is expected to fetch up to 4.7-million-rand when it goes under the hammer in Sydney tomorrow. Bradman wore the battered Baggy Green cap during India’s tour of Australia in 1947/’48 in which he scored 715 runs at an average of 178.75, including three centuries and a double century. Bradman retired in 1948 with a world record Test batting average of 99.94. Cricket authority Wisden regards him as the best ever to grace the game.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-14-cents and the euro at 19-rand-6-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-5-cents and Bitcoin trades at 95-thousand-154-dollars.
