# Seven people were killed in an accident in Kariega in the Eastern Cape
# And rugby: The Cheetahs are back in contention in the SA Cup play-offs
# Criminologist Chris Kanyane raises concerns about warrantless searches by the police’s specialised units after a weekend raid at the former home of member of Parliament and founder of the National Coloured Congress, Fadiel Adams, in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. The political killings task team is under scrutiny following allegations that officials entered without a warrant and wore balaclavas. Kanyane says Adams claims officials failed to identify themselves. He says such conduct may erode public trust, though urgent circumstances can sometimes justify such police action.
# Seven people have been killed in a crash between a bus and a minibus taxi in Kariega in the Eastern Cape this morning. Emergency services responded to the scene of the accident, which also resulted in multiple injuries. Investigations are underway, while officials urge motorists to exercise caution and prioritise road safety on all provincial routes.
# The Board of Healthcare Funders says its National Health Insurance case before the Constitutional Court is not a challenge to the principle of universal health coverage. The court has set aside the hearing from tomorrow until Thursday. BHF’s Katlego Mothudi says the case is about whether or not Parliament complied with its constitutional duty to facilitate meaningful public participation, before passing legislation that will fundamentally reshape the country’s health system:

Their victory places them third on the log with 30 points after log leaders Griquas with 40 and defending champions Pumas with 33. The Pumas edged Boland Kavaliers with an eight try thriller in Mbombela yesterday, winning 38-31 to remain on course to secure a home semi-final when they play the Griffons in their last group match on Friday.

Gold sells at four-thousand-582-dollars-52-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 108-dollars-6-cents a barrel.
# And finally: With today being International Firefighters Day, the City of Cape Town says it acknowledges the courage, determination and service of firefighters. In the past year, the metro’s Fire and Rescue Service responded to 30-thousand-302 incidents and increase of 454 incidents. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says vegetation fires, motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian accidents, informal residential fires and formal residential fires account for the bulk of responses:
