# The DA is demanding an immediate, system-wide security overhaul of all South African National Defence Force installations at military bases. This follows the recent theft of ammunition from Bloemspruit Air Force Base in the Free State. The party wants Defence minister Angie Motshekga and the SANDF to appear before Parliament and table a funded base-security recovery plan. The DA’s Chris Hattingh says persistent cable theft at military bases has direct national security implications:
# KwaZulu-Natal police has suspended another member over allegations of wearing political party regalia and participating in political events. Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the suspension, stressing that the service must remain impartial in line with its Code of Conduct. The member’s identity has not been disclosed, and the investigation is expected to conclude within 60 days. This comes amid similar suspensions in the province, fueling concerns about political influence within the Police Service.
# Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Jackie Macie, is calling on church leaders to ramp up security measures to better protect themselves and their congregants. On Friday, six armed men stormed a church in SunCity A, KwaMhlanga, during a night prayer service, and robbed congregants. Two churches were also robbed in Bushbuckridge. The department’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, says these types of robberies at places of worship could be a reflection of a moral decay in society:
# Soccer: Africa’s governing body, CAF, is negotiating a 17-billion-rand, eight-year partnership with the private sector. Speaking in Nairobi, Kenya, CAF president Patrice Motsepe said the deal aims to increase funding for African soccer, focusing on youth competitions, academies, and talent development for boys and girls. He says this will also support clubs with logistics for Champions League and Confederations Cup participation, strengthening the continent’s soccer infrastructure and future:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-65-cents and the euro at 20-rand-61-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-77-cents and Bitcoin trades at 109-thousand-616-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-477-dollars-47-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-2-cents a barrel.
# And finally: FAME Week Africa, where Africa’s creative industries meet to connect, collaborate, and celebrate, is happening in Cape Town this week. Hollywood actress Sheila Cannon from Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix hit The Residence, is the headline speaker.
