# The South African Reserve Bank is investigating Young Women in Business Network Mutual Bank and its founder, Nthabeleng Likotsi, for allegedly providing false information during it’s application. The probe follows a nine-million-rand fallout with Afribiz Financial Services, which claims it paid for a 26-percent stake in the mutual bank, but received only a two-percent offer. Likotsi denies wrongdoing. Experts say an investigation may impact both her legacy and the credibility of South Africa’s mutual banking sector.
# The GOOD Party in the Western Cape says it is shocked and deeply saddened by the fatal shooting of former Stellenbosch deputy mayor, Nyaniso Jindela, in Kayamandi last night. The party says he was a prominent figure in local governance who played a significant role in serving the Kayamandi community. GOOD’s Robin Hendrikse says they are aware that Jindela was reportedly a suspect in the ongoing investigation into the 2022 murder of another former deputy mayor:
# The Red Meat Industry Services says following the activation of its centralised Operational Centre, it has implemented phase one of its coordinated response to the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in the country. Cases of the disease have been confirmed in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The body’s CEO, Dewald Olivier, says their strong focus is on protecting red meat role players to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the industry:
# Motorsport: Formula One has confirmed the 2026 season will have 24 races, the same as this year, while new technical regulations will be introduced. Madrid has been added as the new host of the Spanish Grand Prix, replacing the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in Italy. Another change will see the Canadian race taking place in May for the first time, in an attempt to make the calendar more sustainable. Australia will still host the opening round, with Abu Dhabi closing off the season in December.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-72-cents and the euro at 20-rand-22-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-90-cents and Bitcoin trades at 109-thousand-200-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-329-dollars-81-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-99-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Profmed wants to support young doctors with a year of free medical aid through South Africa’s first digital locum marketplace, the finDR platform. The initiative will target qualified doctors and dentists under 30 who have completed community service in the past two years and are unemployed or newly employed. finDR is a platform that connects them to job opportunities, mentorship, and healthcare practices. Profmed says the aim is to ease their transition into the medical field and ensure they are supported as they begin their vital careers.
