# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Black Business Council remains one of the foremost voices for the transformation of the South African economy. He was addressing the annual Black Business Council Summit Gala and Awards Dinner in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni last night. Ramaphosa says the structure of the economy is steadily transformed by the partnerships the government has forged with business to provide workplace experience opportunities to young people.
Ramaphosa also said since the advent of democracy, the government has built a comprehensive and robust legislative framework to advance the transformation of the economy. He says the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act and the Employment Equity Act are essential parts of this legislative framework:
# Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for three suspects following the fatal shooting of an on-duty police officer in Pienaar last night. Police spokesperson, Jabu Ndubane says police were alerted at around 9 pm. Upon arrival, they found the 34-year-old constable Donald Mathebula in his private vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital, and declared dead on arrival:
# The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department is calling on communities to remain vigilant amid a risk of severe thunderstorms with possible damaging hail and wind. Spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni says as the temperatures drop, many residents rely on heating methods such as gas heaters, braziers,, electric and paraffin heaters, and open flames to stay warm:
# The South African Revenue Services Commissioner Edward Kiesewetter is urging China to invest in local manufacturing. Speaking during a meeting with the Chinese ambassador Wu Peng in Pretoria, Kiesewetter said he would like to see South Africa not only as a marketplace for Chinese products but as a destination for the assembly and manufacturing of goods by Chinese investors. So far this year South Africa has imported 60-billion-rand more in Chinese goods than it exported. More than 90% of South African exports to China are mining commodities. South Africa buys mostly machinery, clothing, and vehicles from China.
# And roadrunning: The Comrades Marathon Association says it’s all systems go for the ultimate human race. This year’s down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban has attracted a record-breaking 24-thousand entries. The General Manager of the Association, Alain Dalais, says as a result of this some changes had to be made to ensure the safety of athletes. One of these changes will be a two-start, which has never been done before:
