# Black Business Council CEO Kganki Matabane says the Government of National Unity should report back on its achievements to delegates attending the Black Business Council Summit. The summit aims to bring business, political leaders, and civil society together to discuss progress, transformation, and challenges facing Black businesses and South Africa’s economic development. Matabane explains what they want:
# As Child Protection Week draws to a close, government is calling on South Africans to continue prioritising the protection and well-being of children throughout the year. According to the South African Police Service crime statistics, about one-thousand-100 children were murdered in the country in the past financial year. Government spokesperson, Mfundo Nkosi, says the safeguarding of children must remain a national priority throughout the year:
# Israeli air strikes pummeled the southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital, Beirut yesterday, sending thousands of people fleeing the capital. Reuters reports the Israeli military conducted at least ten strikes in the area known as Dahiyeh, after it issued evacuation warnings. The Israeli military said that it was planning to strike underground drone production infrastructure sites that were deliberately established in the heart of the civilian population. It said Hezbollah was producing thousands of drones there, alleging it was with the direction and funding of Iran.
# Rugby: The Sharks will be without injured Eben Etzebeth and Jason Jenkins for their United Rugby Championship semifinal encounter against the Bulls in Pretoria tomorrow. This means the Durban-based team will have a new lock pairing of Corné Rahl and Emile van Heerden, who replace Etzebeth and Jenkins, respectively. Sharks captain Siya Kolisi says they are expecting a tough match against the Bulls, adding that the ultimate goal is to play the kind of rugby they know they are capable of playing:

# And finally: South African geologist Tebogo Makhubela has been named a National Geographic Explorer and recipient of the 2025 Wayfinder Award. Celebrated for his research at the Cradle of Humankind, Makhubela’s work helps unlock ancient secrets of human origins. Makhubela is part of National Geographic’s Rising Star team, studying Homo naledi and early burial practices. He says that the award is a milestone for African researchers shaping humanity’s shared story.
