# The Justice Department is developing a femicide watch initiative to monitor and address gender-based violence. Head of the Promotion of the Rights of Vulnerable Groups, Praise Kambula, emphasised the need for improved investigative and prosecutorial systems to combat such crimes. She stressed to the SABC News that the femicide watch aims to collect data to inform prevention strategies and interventions, enhancing the safety of women in South Africa:
# The DA rejects Correctional Services minister Pieter Groenewald’s attempt to shift blame to the Western Cape Department of Social Development, for the disappearance of three convicted criminals from custody. The men convicted of murder, rape, and robbery, were remanded to Pollsmoor Juvenile Centre by order of the Western Cape High Court after attacking a child youth care worker last year. However, the DA’s Nicholas Gotsell says they disappeared, with one being rearrested in April, another last week, while the third remains unaccounted for:
# Gunmen over the weekend killed 25 people in two attacks across north-central Nigeria’s Benue state. This is the latest violence in a region known for deadly land disputes and reprisals. Attackers killed 14 people yesterday in the community of Ankpali. Muslim ethnic Fulani nomadic herders have long clashed with settled farmers, many of whom are Christian, in Benue over access to land and resources. In a recent report, Amnesty International tallied six-thousand-896 people killed over the last two years in Benue.
# Cricket: South Africa has reportedly roped in former England fast bowler, Stuart Broad, as a consultant ahead of the World Test Championship final against Australia, which begins at Lord’s next Wednesday. According to reports, the 38-year-old will attend a training session of the Proteas next Monday, where he will help the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen. The Proteas have assembled in the UK and will face Zimbabwe in Sussex tomorrow, as part of their buildup for the final.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-91-cents and the euro at 20-rand-48-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-27-cents and Bitcoin trades at 104-thousand-838-dollars.
