Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# ActionSA Women’s Forum calls for urgent regulation in childcare
# Police launch a manhunt for two suspects who shot and killed four people in Dundee, KZN
# And rugby: Penaud is back in Bordeaux starting team for Champions Cup final
# ActionSA Women’s Forum says unregulated, fly-by-night childcare facilities continue to operate without the necessary certification or adherence to safety standards in the country. The forum’s Modiehi Mashaba says the tragic loss of four children in a fire in Mayfair, Johannesburg on Monday highlights the systemic failure to protect children from unsafe environments. She says no child should ever lose their life due to negligence in an Early Childhood Development facility:
# Eskom says the power system is stable and demonstrated resilience as a cold front hit some parts of the country this week. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena says system constraints remain and adequate emergency reserves are in place and strategically deployed to support demand during winter periods. She says a total five-thousand-760-megawatts of generation capacity is expected to be returned to service ahead of the evening peak on Monday, to further stabilise the grid:
# KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt in search of two suspects who shot and killed four people at a house at Mzomusha area in Dundee on Friday evening. Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda says two male victims, aged 31 and 35, were outside the house when two suspects arrived and opened fire at them. He says the suspects then proceeded inside the house, demanded money and drugs from a 29-year-old woman:
# The GOOD Party has expressed disappointment over the state’s decision to provisionally withdraw one-billion-rand fraud charges against former Cape Town mayoral Committee member for Human Settlements Malusi Booi, alleged gang boss Ralph Stanfield and others. The party argues the move raises serious concerns about the National Prosecuting Authority’s ability to tackle complex cases. GOOD’s Brett Herron calls for a full, independent investigation into the city’s alleged links to gang networks:
# The head of the UN says Israel has only authorised for Gaza what amounts to a “teaspoon” of aid when a flood of assistance is required. He warned that more people will die unless there is rapid, reliable, safe and sustained aid access. Israel says around 300 aid trucks have been allowed through since it lifted an 11-week blockade on Monday, but according to Guterres, only about a third have been transported to warehouses within Gaza. Experts have warned that many of Gaza’s two million residents are at high risk of famine.
# And, Rugby: France winger Damian Penaud will start in Bordeaux-Begles’ Champions Cup final against Northampton in Cardiff today. Penaud has been sidelined since the semi-final victory over Toulouse earlier this month with an ankle injury. The 28-year-old has scored 21 tries this season for club and country and forms a lethal partnership with fellow winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey. Head coach Yannick Bru has made six other changes to his team from last weekend’s Top 14 win over Castres including naming Tonga heavyweight prop Ben Tameifuna on the bench.
