# The PSA supports the Reserve Bank’s willingness to revisit its inflation target approach
# Donald Trump does not rule out seeking a third term as US president
# And motorsport: Local driver Yuki Tsunoda aims for a podium finish in his first Grand Prix for Red Bull
# The Public Servants Association has expressed support for the Reserve Bank’s willingness to revisit its inflation target approach. The PSA has long urged the SARB to consider policy shifts to support economic growth and ease financial pressures on consumers. It believes lower inflation targets could enhance price stability, encourage investment, and improve the bank’s credibility. While structural challenges like unemployment remain, the PSA’s Claude Naicker advocates for transparent discussions and policy interventions.
# Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dion George, has stressed the importance of safeguarding South Africa’s three-thousand-592-kilometer coastline while unlocking its potential for equitable prosperity, climate resilience, and ecological health. The minister recently launched the 2025–2030 National Coastal Management Programme. The department’s spokesperson, Thobile Zulu-Molobi, says minister George has emphasised the urgency of the programme, highlighting that the country’s coastline is a national asset under threat:
# Western Cape MEC for Education, David Maynier, says the parents of over 33-thousand learners currently in Grade 7 have not yet applied for a place in Grade 8 for the 2026 academic year. The province is halfway through the on-time admissions window for 2026. Maynier says primary schools are alerted to the Grade 7 learners whose parents have not applied, and asked to contact the parents to remind them:
# US president Donald Trump is not ruling out the possibility of serving a third term, saying there are methods that he could use. This is despite the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution stating that no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice. Trump says it is however far too early to think about trying to defy the two-presidential term limit in the Constitution, adding that he is focused on his current term:
# Motorsport: Local driver Yuki Tsunoda aims for a podium finish in his home Grand Prix at Suzuku in Japan after unexpectedly receiving a seat at Red Bull. He replaced Liam Lawson of New Zealand, who was demoted to Red Bull’s second team, Racing Bulls, after a disappointing start to his Formula One career. Tsunoda, who will partner Dutch world champion Max Verstappen, says he wants to make an instant impact after not being able to claim a podium finish in his four previous seasons.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-27-cents and the euro at 19-rand-78-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-64-cents and Bitcoin trades at 81-thousand-64-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-119-dollars-48-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-98-cents a barrel.
