# IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa has vowed to champion economic upliftment as a major agenda point in the upcoming national dialogue on socio-economic challenges. Speaking prior to the 50th anniversary of the party at the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Stadium, Hlabisa emphasised job creation, and tackling gender-based violence. Hlabisa also called for crime prevention and a safer environment to attract investors:
Earlier a bus accident on the R34 near Vryheid left 22 people injured while traveling from Gauteng to the IFP rally. MEC for Transport Siboniso Duma confirmed the accident occurred this morning when the Sun Coaches bus overturned. Preliminary reports suggest speeding was the main cause. No fatalities were reported, but some passengers are in critical condition.
# The Women on Farms Project is holding the South African government accountable for failing to protect farm workers from harmful agrotoxins. Speaking in Stellenbosch, director Colette Solomon highlighted the severe health risks, linked to toxic pesticides. She called for a ban on hazardous chemicals and stronger worker protections, emphasizing their constitutional right to life:
# Venezuela has reached an agreement with the United States to resume repatriation flights of migrants. President Nicolas Maduro made the announced in a televised address yesterday. Maduro said the flights would commence today, thanks to the government’s perseverance. He added the country will resume flights to continue rescuing and freeing migrants from prisons in the United States. The move comes amid a diplomatic spat between America and Venezuela over the recent deportation flights of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador.
# And finally: Boxing South Africa has paid tribute to two-time heavyweight champion and Olympian, George Foreman. Foreman passed away peacefully on Friday surrounded by loved ones. Boxing SA chairperson Ayanda Khumalo praised his resilience and impact on the sport, calling him an inspiration to athletes worldwide. She said that legends never die as Foreman’s legacy in boxing and humanitarian work will continue to inspire generations.
