# The GOOD Party has criticised the DA for aligning with AfriForum’s visit to Washington, labelling it as a political stunt to retain the white vote in the next election. A DA delegation also undertook a working visit to the US, aimed at ensuring American leaders received accurate information regarding South Africa’s domestic landscape. GOOD’s secretary-general, Brett Herron, says what the DA was doing was simply grabbing the opportunity to attract publicity by claiming common ground with the US’s anti-diversity and anti-justice agenda:
# The Electoral Commission is set to begin a public discussion on the potential of electronic voting in South Africa. A three-day conference will be held in Cape Town from Monday to Wednesday to launch the debate. The conference will explore research on e-voting, including lessons from other countries. The commission’s CEO, Sy Mamabolo, says the event will improve elections, enhance voter access, and give citizens a chance to shape the future of digital voting:
# The City of Tshwane’s Emergency Services says it is continuing to monitor the weather conditions after the South African Weather Service issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over most parts of Gauteng today. EMS’s spokesperson, Lindsay Mnguni, says the rainfall probability around Tshwane is 60-percent, with chances of rain expected to subside to 30-percent by tomorrow:
# Cricket: Veteran Australian batter Steve Smith plans to still play Tests and T20s for his country after announcing his retirement from one-day internationals. He made the decision after his team was beaten by India in the semifinal of the Champions Trophy. Thirty-five-year-old Smith played 170 ODIs for Australia since making his debut against the West Indies in 2010. His five-thousand-800 runs included 12 centuries, and he earned two World Cup titles. Smith says it’s been a great ride and he loved every minute of it.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-34-cents and the euro at 19-rand-79-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-65-cents and Bitcoin trades at 90-thousand-980-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-902-dollars-99-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 69-dollars-35-cents a barrel.
# And finally: South African actress Crystal-Donna Roberts died of cancer, aged 41. She announced in 2019 she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, but the disease spread. Roberts grew up in Cape Town and obtained a drama degree at the University of the Free State before becoming a drama teacher in a Western Cape school. Her acting career included roles in Sewende Laan, Fynskrif, Die Byl, Getroud met Rugby and Arendsvlei, and she was also a field presenter for Pasella on SABC2.
