# A suspect has been arrested following the murder of two police officers and two elderly women in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal. Provincial police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, condemned the tragic attack which occurred during a crime scene investigation. Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says officers tracked the 38-year-old suspect to a hospital, where he was detained:
# The Black Business Federation calls for inclusive growth and free trade during South Africa’s G20 presidency. CEO Ntsikelelo Dlulane highlights the opportunity to prioritise Africa’s interests, including reducing capital costs for developing economies. The federation has emphasised the need for the growth of small, medium and micro enterprises, debt sustainability reforms, and an inclusive economy:
# The South African National Roads Agency has announced readiness for increased festive season traffic, urging motorists to drive safely. SANRAL says key national routes are open, with construction halted and response teams on standby. Spokesperson Vusi Mona emphasised safety, advising regular breaks and caution at night. In addition, SANRAL’s Road Incident Management System will ensures swift responses, while safety activities at stops to promote awareness.
# Syria’s de facto leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, said yesterday Israel is using false pretexts to justify its attacks on his coutry. He emphasised that he is not interested in engaging in new conflicts as the country focuses on rebuilding following the end of Bashar al-Assad’s reign. Sharaa – better known as Abu Mohammed al-Golani – leads the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group that swept Assad from power last week, ending the family’s five-decade iron-fisted rule. Israel called the incursion into Syrian territory a limited and temporary measure to ensure border security.
# And golf: Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult held onto his lead by the end of a difficult third round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship. He is chasing a second DP World Tour title at Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga. Cooler temperatures helped Kinhult put together a solid 69 to head the field on 14 under par. He heads into the final round two strokes clear of South Africa’s Ryan van Velzen, who shot 65 to climb to 12 under par. Darius van Driel from the Netherlands kept himself in contention on 11 under par with a 67.
