# Basic Education minister Siviwe Gwarube has clarified the resolution of a NEDLAC dispute initiated by Solidarity over sections 4 and 5 of the BELA Act. The multilateral settlement, signed by the Minister, the Presidency, and Solidarity, resolved Solidarity’s protest bid. Gwarube emphasised the distinction between NEDLAC’s legal dispute process and ongoing consultations. The minister also highlighted her commitment to dialogue for conflict resolution. She says the settlement marks progress in addressing concerns raised within the labour and education sectors.
# The Department of Water and Sanitation has urged dam owners to register their dams within 60 days to ensure compliance with safety regulations. This follows a notice by minister Pemmy Majodina, mandating registration for dams with a safety risk. The department’s spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa says owners must submit forms to avoid penalties and ensure dam safety, protecting public health and the environment:
# The World Food Programme has delivered the first batches of food in Zamzam refugee camp, in the Darfur region of Sudan. Spokesperson Leni Kinzli told Newzroom Afrika that 17-thousand-500 tons of food is being delivered to 14-critical hotspots in famine-stricken Sudan. She says that approximately 4.7-million children under the age of five, as well as breast feeding and pregnant women, are said to be suffering from acute malnutrition:
# Rugby: The Blitzboks were off to a flying start this morning when they beat Australia 17-0 in their first match of the Dubai tournament. Quewin Nortjé was the first to score for the Boks with a try in the first half, while Tristan Leyds scored two tries – one in the first half and one in the second. He also converted one of his tries. The half-time score was 10-0. This afternoon the Boks are facing Kenya and tonight the French in Pool A of the competition.
# And an underage illegal miner who emerged from Shaft 10 in Stilfontein along with other youngsters on Thursday morning, was found with gold wrapped in a white cloth in his underpants. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the discovery was made during an interrogation process. She confirmed that gold worth an estimated at 80-thousand-rand was found around the teenager’s private parts. He resurfaced at around 11 am on Thursday, together with a 16-year-old from Zimbabwe and a 19-year-old from Mozambique.
