# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Department of Basic Education will immediately issue a circular to provincial education departments and all schools on best protocols for preventing and managing foodborne illnesses . Ramaphosa says by the start of the new school year, the department and school governing bodies, together with the Department of Health, will review and update the guidelines for the management of suppliers to public schools:
# Government has welcomed S&P’s decision to revise South Africa’s outlook from stable to positive. The rating agency says the positive outlook reflects its view that increased political stability after the general elections could boost private investment and GDP growth. The formation of a coalition under the Government of National Unity resulted in the easing of financing conditions and a stronger currency. S&P says government’s economic growth strategy is aimed at achieving fiscal sustainability, supporting economic growth and critical social services, and addressing significant fiscal and economic risks.
# The EFF says it is disgusted by the escalating reports of teacher misconduct, particularly cases of sexual violence in South African schools. The EFF’s spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys says according to the South African Council for Educators, 22 teachers were dismissed between 2023 and 2024 after being found guilty of sexual misconduct. Mathys says under the leadership of the ANC, children in South Africa have come to face extreme daily threats to their safety and well-being.
# Rugby: Springbok captain Siya Kolisi is optimistic about the lineup announced by coach Rassie Erasmus for today’s clash against England at Twickenham. South Africa’s starting 15 sees 12 changes, including a revamped backline. Erasmus has opted for a 5-3 bench split. Kolisi praised the balance of experience and youth, to strengthen the squad and give younger players vital opportunities:
# And the Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town will today celebrate World Prematurity Day with a fun walk and care packages for mothers. The day commemorated tomorrow globally will highlight the importance of parental involvement and expert neonatal care. The hospital’s head of Neonatology, Gugu Kali says Tygerberg cares for about 800 premature babies each year, offering specialised support to help them thrive:
