# ActionSA in Johannesburg is to refer the former mayor to the Ethics Committee
# Some Tshwane reservoirs are showing an improvement in water levels
# And rugby: The top of the world rankings is shaken up after the weekend’s Tests
# ActionSA in Johannesburg says it has resolved to file a motion in council to have councillor Kabelo Gwamanda referred to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee. This comes after Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero fired him as the mayoral committee member for Community Development. Gwamanda, the formere mayor, is currently facing fraud allegations for running a funeral policy scam in 2011, in which Soweto residents were defrauded. ActionSA’s Khomo Mashala says Gwamanda must also be relieved of his councillor responsibilities:
# The City of Tshwane says water levels at four reservoirs that were affected by recent power outages are steadily improving. A power trip at Rand Water’s Palmiet Booster Pump Station last Wednesday left several areas without water. The metro’s spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says teams are working to clear the airlocks and restore water to affected areas, including Laudium and Attridgeville:
# Free State police say traffic on the N3 stretch of road in the Harrismith precinct is now flowing freely. This comes after truck drivers blocked the road in protest. The protest stems from growing tensions around the hiring of foreign nationals in the trucking industry. Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says Public Order Police attended to the matter early this morning:
# Rugby: The weekend’s Test results had a huge influence at the top of the world rankings. South Africa returned to the top spot after last night’s victory over Scotland, while New Zealand is now second, followed by Ireland who relinquished the number one position after losing to the All Blacks. France is still fourth and Argentina improved to fifth after beating Italy, followed by Scotland. England slumped to seventh after losing to the Wallabies, who improved to eighth. Fiji is ninth after beating Wales, and Italy is tenth.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-65-cents and the euro at 18-rand-90-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-81-cents and Bitcoin trades at 81-thousand-278-dollars-10-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-667-dollars-68-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 73-dollars-76-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story won all six of its nominated categories at the Critics Choice Documentary Awards held in New York, including best documentary feature and best editing. It was tied with Netflix’s Will and Harper for best documentary feature. Sugarcane, which scored the most nominations this year with eight, won two awards, for best political documentary and best true-crime documentary. The Last of the Sea Women and Simone Biles Rising also won two awards each. The best historical documentary went to The Greatest Night in Pop.
