# Transport Minister Barbara Creecy says South Africa needs a stable and well-maintained road network that will improve access to economic activities and allows for the safe transportation of people and freight on a world-class road system. Creecy visited the R573 Moloto Corridor Road Project from Limpopo to Gauteng. She says quality road infrastructure plays a critically important role in the South African economy:
# A total of 225 illegal miners resurfaced from underground in Orkney Mine in North West yesterday due to starvation and dehydration. Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says they are part of what is believed to be hundreds if not a thousand of illegal miners who are stuck underground with no food, water and necessities because the routes used to deliver food and necessities to these illegal miners, are blocked by vala umgodi teams:
# The Israeli military says a senior Hezbollah operative was captured in a naval raid in the northern Lebanese town of Batroun on Friday. An official said special forces had apprehended the individual and taken him back to Israeli territory, in what was described as a “special operation”. Lebanon’s state news agency said an “unidentified military force” arrived on the beach at dawn, raided a nearby building, and captured one person before leaving by speedboat. The raid angered Lebanese authorities, with the foreign ministry instructed to submit a complaint to the UN Security Council.
# Cricket: New Zealand completed an unprecedented 3-0 series sweep in India as the Black Caps dismissed the hosts for 121 on a tricky wicket to secure a 25-run victory on day three of the third and final Test in Mumbai. The last time the Indians were blanked at home was in 2000, in a two-match series against South Africa. The tourists won the opening match in Bengaluru by eight wickets for their first Test victory in India in 36 years and wrapped up the series in Pune with a 113-run win.
# And, the ANC has congratulated the national executive committee member, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, on being awarded the Pan African Women Empowerment Legacy Award at its summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The ANC’s spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says Dlamini-Zuma received the award for her contributions during her term as the chairperson of the African Union Commission between 2012 to 2017. During her tenure, Dlamini-Zuma worked hard to give women access to modern agricultural instruments to improve their agricultural productivity.
