In this bulletin:
# Cosatu is disappointed in the rugby blackout for most South Africans
# The SA Flag lights up the Cape Town Stadium for the Springboks clash
# And, former US vice-president Dick Cheney to vote for Kamala Harris
# Cosatu is disappointed that the rugby game between the Springboks and New Zealand will not be shown to all South Africans today. Cosatu’s Malvern De Bruyn says this is a sad day for working class families. He says minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton Mckenzie has just presented a gimmick around last Saturday’s match, and it is a real begging bowl approach to those who benefit and control South African sports:
Meanwhile, a South African flag was projected on the Cape Town Stadium ahead of the Rugby Championship clash between the two rugby greats. The six-metre by six-metre flag stands eight metres high and was projected until midnight last night near the stadium’s main entrance facing Signal Hill. The flag projection will also be visible after today’s game from 7pm until midnight. Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the city is united in pride and excitement ahead of the historic clash against the Springboks greatest rivals.
# Eskom says the unplanned capacity loss factor continues to be on a downward trend at 25.4-percent for the financial year to date, improving from 34.6-percent in the corresponding period last year. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says this reduction in unplanned capacity loss factor represents a 9-percent improvement compared to the same period last year:
# The EFF is calling for the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the full extent of extortion in South Africa. The party’s Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says this committee will conduct public hearings, gather the views of small business owners, civil society, and experts, and propose comprehensive policy and legislative interventions to eradicate this crime. He says South Africa is under siege from criminals who are now preying on vulnerable small businesses:
# And, finally: Former US vice-president and lifelong Republican, Dick Cheney, has confirmed he will vote for the Democrats’ Kamala Harris in November’s presidential election. Cheney was an influential figure during the presidency of George W Bush. He said in a statement there had never been an individual who is a greater threat to America than the current Republican candidate, Donald Trump. Cheney said Trump tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after voters rejected him and can never be trusted with power again.
