# The Home Affairs Department has completed preparations to deport 95 Libyans arrested in White River, Mpumalanga, last month. It’s believed they entered with visas obtained through misrepresentation. On Thursday, the White River Magistrate’s Court withdrew their cases. Home Affairs minister, Leon Schreiber, says they will depart from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport today on a flight funded by the Libyan Government:
# Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt after six men were fatally shot in a Umlazi’s informal settlement last night. The victims, aged between 20 and 40, were attacked by unknown suspects who first shot three men outside their accommodation before heading inside. The six were declared dead at the scene. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the motive remains unclear:
# The DA in the Western Cape is alarmed by the theft of ammunition and weaponry from the Faure Base in Eerste River. The party says this highlights a serious security crisis within SAPS facilities. With a history of stolen weapons ending up in the hands of criminals, the DA calls for an urgent investigation into this incident. Spokesperson Thomas Walters stressed the need to rethink policing strategies and supports the devolution of policing to the Western Cape:
# The unbeaten Black Caviar, nicknamed the ‘Wonder from Down Under’, has died at the age of 17. The retired Australian mare won a record 25 consecutive races from 2009 to 2013. She was crowned the world’s best sprinter on four occasions and Australian Racehorse of the Year three times, and even appeared on the front cover of Vogue magazine. Black Caviar had been suffering from laminitis, a debilitating condition that affects a horse’s hooves. She was put to sleep on humane grounds after giving birth to a foal on Friday.
#And finally rugby: Saturday’s Currie Cup encounters saw a 25-20 victory for the Sharks over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. Both teams went over for three tries but it was the boot of Lionel Cronje that made the final difference. In Johannesburg a hattrick of tries from Renzo du Plessis helped the Lions to a convincing 41-22 victory over Western Province. The weekend’s last game is between the Griffons and Griquas in Welkom at three this afternoon. After seven games each the Bulls are heading the log on 31 points, with the Lions, Cheetahs and Sharks in second, third and fourth places respectively.
