# AfriForum kickstarts tests of South Africa’s water quality
# And, rugby: A brand-new halfback pairing will play for the Springboks against Australia
# The MK Party and the SABC are set to clash in the High Court in Johannesburg next week over the term government of national unity. The party filed urgent papers last month, challenging the public broadcaster’s use of the term. It claims it breaches the SABC’s independence and public mandate. MK leader Jacob Zuma argues that South Africa’s current political arrangement does not fit the definition of a government of national unity, alleging deliberate public misinformation. The SABC called the allegations untenable and will oppose the application.
# AfriForum has kickstarted its yearly programme to test South Africa’s water. Branches nationwide are testing the water quality of drinking water and water at wastewater treatment works during August. The results will be published in the civil society organisation’s blue and green drop report. The Department of Water and Sanitation’s blue and green drop report last year showed that 46-percent of drinking water is microbiologically unsafe for human consumption, while 67.6-percent of all sewage treatment works are in a high or critical risk category.
# The N3 Toll Concession says the N3 toll route between KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Gauteng will be busier than normal due to the Women’s Day long weekend. Chief operating official Thania Dhoogra says increased traffic volumes going south-bound into KwaZulu-Natal can be expected from around midday today:
# Rugby: The Springboks will have a brand-new halfback pairing against Australia on Saturday. Thirty-four-year-old Cobus Reinach will start at scrumhalf, with 22-year-old Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu next to him at flyhalf. The Rugby Championship opener in Brisbane will be the first Test start for Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Reinach is excited about this new partnership:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-40-cents and the euro at 20-rand-13-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-37-cents and Bitcoin trades at 57-thousand-104-dollars-58-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-396-dollars-15-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-86-cents a barrel.
# And, with winter coming to an end, South Africa’s wildflower season has kicked in. Namaqua National Park in the Northern Cape and the West Coast National Park in the Western Cape remain popular spots. In the Northern Cape, Namaqualand daisies and more than three-thousand-500 floral species emerge from early August to the end of September and offer one of the world’s greatest flower shows. Meanwhile, the West Coast National Park’s Postberg section is now open, offering an opportunity for visitors to witness the breathtaking beauty of seasonal blooms.
