# The ANC’s three-day Lekgotla begins in Boksburg
# The Anti-Gang Unit investigates the double murder of teen brothers in Cape Town
# And, Olympic Games: The mixed relay swim training session is cancelled over the Seine’s water quality
# The ANC’s three-day Lekgotla starts today in Boksburg, with leaders including the national executive council, provincial representatives, and ANC ministers, premiers, and mayors in attendance. They will discuss outcomes from the NEC meeting to enhance the ANC renewal process and serve South Africans better. The Lekgotla will also reflect on the party’s worst performance since democracy and strategise ways to revive the party before the next election.
Meanwhile, the ANC has rejected calls to relocate the 44th SADC summit from Zimbabwe due to activist arrests. President Mnangagwa insists Zimbabwe won’t tolerate violence ahead of the summit on August 17. Mnangagwa emphasised that the country’s ongoing peace enables it to pursue transformative projects. ANC spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi stated that Zimbabwe issues should be addressed in Zimbabwe:
# Anti-Gang Unit detectives in Cape Town are investigating the double murder of two teenage brothers who were fatally shot in Lavender Hill yesterday morning. The boys were walking on St. Bernard Street when they were attacked. Additional police have been deployed in the area. Lavender Hill CPF chairperson Gavin Walbugh told eNCA that the safety of children is a concern:
# The UK government has urged its citizens in Lebanon to leave immediately due to fears of a broader regional conflict. Foreign minister David Lammy stated that British nationals should depart while commercial options remain available. Lammy highlighted that tensions are high and the situation could rapidly deteriorate. He assured that the UK is strengthening its consular presence in Lebanon and providing operational support. He also emphasised the urgency of leaving before exit routes including roads and air transport become limited or closed.
# And, the Olympic Games: Organisers in Paris have cancelled off today’s swimming training session for the triathlon mixed relay event, after recent heavy rain affected water quality levels in the River Seine. The decision was made late yesterday after tests showed water quality did not meet the required threshold following rain on 31 July and 1 August. The mixed relay race is scheduled for tomorrow. Pollution in the Seine after heavy rains had caused the men’s race to be postponed for a day, after swimming practice sessions were cancelled two days in a row.
