Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Mbalula says small parties are part of South Africa’s constitutional democracy
# Rand Water resumes extensive maintenance of the infrastructure which supplies water to Tshwane
# And, tennis: Alcaraz dreams of a Wimbledon victory and a triumph for Spain at Euro 2024
# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says South Africa is a constitutional democracy, and anyone can establish a political party and contest an election. Mabalula says the movement can therefore not complain about all the small parties that have been formed to challenge the ANC. Speaking on the MyANC channel, he said it is for the ANC to change its fortunes and not to look at others:
# Rand Water’s comprehensive maintenance programme of their Palmiet and Mapleton systems, which supply water to the City of Tshwane, is set to resume tomorrow and is expected to be completed on 29 July. The city’s spokesperson Selby Bokaba says the maintenance programme on the two systems started earlier this month, has been successful and did not lead to any water supply interruption:
# The EFF in Gauteng says it deeply concerned about the provincial Department of Social Development’s ongoing neglect of non-profit organisations responsible for caring for vulnerable members of society. The EFF’s Nkululeko Dunga says the organisations have faced harassment and funding cuts from government. The party demands an end to the nonchalant attitude, calling on newly appointed MEC Faith Mazibuko to urgently prioritise the safety of people over the department’s questionable activities.
# A strategist for the US Republican Party, John Thomas, says the assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump in Pennsylvania will be a “moment of unity”. Thomas told Sky News it is likely to propel Trump to “total victory” in November’s election. He says people across the country are rallying behind Trump, whether they like him or not. He commends the former president for raising a fist after being hit in the ear at a campaign rally and saying ‘fight, fight, fight’, because he understood the magnitude of the moment.
# And, tennis: Carlos Alcaraz says he hopes to contribute to a perfect day for Spain with a victory over Novak Djokovic, which, if he had his way, will be followed by Spain’s soccer team getting the better of England in the Euro 2024 title match in Germany. The 21-year-old champion faces a repeat of last year’s Wimbledon final when he meets seven-time champion Djokovic on Centre Court. Alcaraz is a passionate Real Madrid fan and has been in contact with Spain’s players during the Euros.
