# ActionSA strongly condemns the return of corruption-accused Zizi Kodwa to Parliament as an ANC Member of Parliament. Kodwa faces charges for allegedly accepting a 1.6-million-rand bribe in the state of capture report. The party criticises the ANC for allowing Kodwa to serve while facing serious corruption charges, arguing it undermines the rule of law. ActionSA’s Athol Trollip calls on the ANC to prioritise Parliament’s integrity by withdrawing Kodwa’s candidacy and ensuring accountability:
# The City of Tshwane has condemned an act of sabotage in Rethabiseng, region seven, that led to a prolonged water outage. City manager Johann Mettler called the act evil and barbaric, urging law enforcement to investigate. The city’s spokesperson Selby Bokaba says technicians have since restored water to most areas, except for high-lying regions still affected by the sabotage:
# The death toll in the Eastern Cape due to two separate accidents has risen to at least nine. This includes three fatalities, including a police detective, in a multi-vehicle crash on the N2 near Kei Cuttings. Another incident on the R61 Road in Mbizana claimed the lives of six pedestrians after a hit-and-run by a speeding White BMW Sedan. Investigations into both accidents are ongoing. The Department of Transport urges all road users to exercise caution and vigilance.
# In a crackdown on cross-border crime in northern KwaZulu-Natal, the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court has sentenced vehicle hijacker and smuggler Sipho Mhlanga to 53-years in prison. Mhlanga, linked to a syndicate smuggling vehicles to Mozambique, was found guilty of multiple charges including murder and robbery. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says a joint action plan with Mozambique is in place to curb such crimes through regular cross-border operations:
# And, motorsport: Lando Norris brushed aside the drama of his McLaren team’s hospitality unit catching fire to produce “the best lap of his life” and deprive Max Verstappen of pole for the Spanish Grand Prix in qualifying. Norris produced his magic lap after a stressful day because of the fire. Lewis Hamilton will start on the second row, alongside his Mercedes teammate George Russell. Joining Charles Leclerc on the third row will be his Ferrari teammate and home favourite Carlos Sainz. The race starts at three this afternoon.
