# Amakhosi traditional leaders will formally endorse Thulasizwe Buthelezi as the new Zulu prime minister today. Buthelezi, backed by king Misuzulu kaZwelithini and various other leaders, succeeds the late prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who served for nearly 70 years. Thulasizwe Buthelezi, also a senior figure in the IFP, assumes the role after strong support from traditional and religious circles.
# DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga accuses the ANC of politicising citizens’ struggles out of desperation. Addressing a campaign rally in Ekurhuleni, Msimanga highlighted ongoing challenges such as inadequate service delivery and water scarcity. He asserts the ANC aims to perpetuate poverty and vowed the DA plans to reclaim the economic hub from the ruling party:
# The 6th Commonwealth Red Cross and Red Crescent conference on International Humanitarian Law in Pretoria has emphasised the crucial need for its international upholding in the face of escalating global conflicts. Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross’ Regional Delegation Southern Africa, Jules Amoti, highlighted the urgent necessity to protect civilians amid new technological threats. Amoti urged the reinforcement of international humanitarian law to safeguard human dignity and peace:
# Olympics: World Athletics’ announcement of prize money for gold medallists at the Paris Games drew different reactions. President Sebastian Coe announced unexpectedly the 48 field and track athletes who win their items will get 926-thousand-rand each. The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations says its other members feel the move undermines the Olympic spirit as one cannot put a price on an Olympic medal. But the world’s leading athletes welcomed the announcement.
# And, the South African Civil Aviation Authority is commemorating its 25th Anniversary Airshow at Wonderboom National Airport today. The event, doubling as an aviation career day, anticipates over three-thousand attendees, including local schools. Participants will engage in career insights, flight displays, and hands-on activities. The occasion is expected to boost local businesses and feature prominent aviation stakeholders. Transport minister Sindisiwe Chikunga will deliver the keynote address.
