# Load-shedding remains suspended
# And, there’s no end to Tyla’s triumphs
# The Anglican archbishop of Cape Town and president of the SA Council of Churches, Thabo Makgoba, says voters face the most important decision they will make this year. Makgoba spoke at the Easter vigil in St George’s Cathedral. He stresses May’s election is not simply the choosing of a party. The vote calls on all South Africans to decide for or against continued corruption; for or against inequality; and for or against misgovernance:
# Eskom says sustained available generation capacity, adequate emergency reserves, and anticipated lower demand at the beginning of the week ahead, is making it possible for load-shedding to remain suspended until further notice. Eskom will provide a system update on Wednesday or communicate any significant changes should they occur.
# ActionSA in Gauteng says it finds the ANC administration’s decision to announce this week’s fuel price hike mere hours after gazetting the scrapping of e-tolls dubious. The party’s premier candidate, Funzi Ngobeni, says it appears the burden remains on Gauteng motorists. He again questions why e-toll debt had been been turned into a provincial issue while Sanral ought to be held accountable for erecting the gantries in the first place:
# Tennis: American Danielle Collins overcame fourth seed Russian-born Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina to win the final of the Miami Open 7-5, 6-3. She claimed the title on home soil in her farewell season. Collins did so before an adoring crowd that included André Agassi and Martina Navratilova. She won three of her seven break points on her way to victory in just over two hours. In today’s men’s final Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov will be aiming to stall Italian Jannik Sinner’s surge.
# And, Grammy winner Tyla was yesterday evening judged the Best International Act at the inaugural Cultural and Creative Industry Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre. She thanked South Africans for their support, saying the country is loved around the world. The popular young singer touched down at OR Tambo International to a hero’s welcome yesterday, following her Grammy triumph. Tyla’s single Water made it into the top ten charts in multiple countries, including the United States and the UK.
