# The FF Plus youth leader reaffirms the party’s commitment to youth empowerment
# Dan Marokane plans to collaborate with all partners to solve the load-shedding challenge
# And, tennis: A Russian star is disqualified for screaming at a line judge
# The Freedom Front Plus’ youth leader Tammy Breedt has reiterated the party’s commitment to youth empowerment, criticising the ANC’s economic policies for discouraging young people further. Hundreds of supporters have converged at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria for the party’s election manifesto launch. Party leader Pieter Groenewald will outline the key priorities should the party be in government. In her address, Breedt said the party is dedicated to implementing policies that support the growth and advancement of young people across the country:
# The newly appointed Eskom group chief executive, Dan Marokane says he will collaborate with all partners, whether individuals or organised formations, who have come forward to help solve the load-shedding challenge. He adds the utility has to sell its products and services, making an end to load-shedding essential. Marokane says it can be done by being focused, diligent, using the right skills and ensuring disciplined execution:
# The DA in Gauteng is demanding that the MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, and MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, review the scholar transport policy to ensure the safety of learners. This follows an accident where a learner transport vehicle carrying learners from Sandringham High School collided with another vehicle in Alexandra on Thursday. The DA’s Sergio dos Santos says six learners sustained minor injuries, and one had his leg broken.
# The City of Johannesburg has been ordered to reinstate 78 workers dismissed during Mpho Phalatse’s tenure as mayor. The Democratic Alliance-led coalition initially dismissed 130 workers in 2021, claiming they were political appointees. Disputes arose over contract conversions from fixed to permanent status under former mayor Geoff Makhubo’s administration. Despite the DA’s allegations of corruption, the High Court ruled the conversions lawful. The city was directed to cover workers’ legal costs following the decision.
# And, tennis: Russian star Andrey Rublev has been disqualified after screaming in the face of a line judge. The 26-year-old was defaulted for unsportsmanlike conduct during yesterday’s semi-final at the Dubai Championships, allowing rival Alexander Bublik to advance to the final. Second-seeded Rublev lost his cool after Bublik won a point to take a 6-5 lead in the deciding set. He insisted he had not sworn at the line judge, but was defaulted and will lose his ranking points and prize money.
