# ActionSA is calling for the removal of National Director of Public Prosecutions, advocate Shamila Batohi, and a full parliamentary inquiry into the National Prosecuting Authority’s ongoing prosecutorial failures. The party says the NPA has once again exposed its deep dysfunction, with the unlawful and irregular handling of the extradition of Ace Magashule’s former personal assistant, Moroadi Cholota. ActionSA’s, Matthew George, says under Batohi’s leadership, the NPA reels from one scandal to the next:
# The DA says at least ten South African National Defence Force bases across Gauteng, Western Cape, and the Northern Cape have been invaded by land grabbers. The party claims informal settlements and livestock kraals have been set up on military land, including at Marievale base in Gauteng, where cows and goats are being kept. The DA’s Maliyakhe Shelembe calls on Defence minister Angie Motshekga to take urgent action as this threatens national security and military operations.
# The International Energy Agency says global energy investment is set to increase to a record 59-trillion-rand this year, amid economic uncertainty and energy security concerns. Renewables, nuclear power, power grids, energy storage, low-carbon fuels, and energy efficiency will be the main areas of net investment. Investment in oil, natural gas, and coal is set to drop. The agency says China remains the leader in terms of clean energy investments, while the US is expected to stabilise due to a reduction in government support.
# Rugby: The Sharks will be without injured Eben Etzebeth and Jason Jenkins for their United Rugby Championship semifinal encounter against the Bulls in Pretoria tomorrow. This means the Durban-based team will have a new lock pairing of Corné Rahl and Emile van Heerden, who replace Etzebeth and Jenkins, respectively. Sharks captain Siya Kolisi says they are expecting a tough match against the Bulls, adding that the ultimate goal is to play the kind of rugby they know they are capable of playing:
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-76-cents and the euro at 20-rand-29-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-4-cents and Bitcoin trades at 103-thousand-475-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-363-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-85-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Three Cape Town restaurants have made the World’s 100 Best Restaurants 2025 list. The list, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, features some of the most esteemed dining spots in the world. La Colombe at the Silvermist Wine Estate, which is making its sixth appearance on the list, is at number 55. FYN at the Cape Town City Centre is ranked 82nd and appears for the fifth time, with Camps Bay’s Salsify at the Roundhouse, a new entry at number 88.
