Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The MK Party says it has uncovered the unlawful connectivity operations of Starlink in South Africa
# Golf: The 2027 Ryder Cup will take place in Ireland in September
# And Slovakia approves the sale of brown bear meat to the public
# The MK Party says it will not tolerate the erosion of South Africa’s legal framework by foreign profiteers or their local enablers. Communications regulator, Icasa, has launched an investigation into allegations that Elon Musk’s Starlink internet-satellite service is operating in the country illegally. The MK Party says it has uncovered that the unlawful connectivity operations of Starlink are currently being conducted through a shadow entity called “ICASAsePUSH”. The party claims this entity was registered by Afrikaner farmers in the Northern Cape, deregistered and set up in Mozambique.
# AfriForum says president Cyril Ramaphosa is violating the United Nations Genocide Convention by not condemning the Kill the Boer chant. The organisation argues government’s failure to act against EFF leader Julius Malema for using the chant mirrors the same inaction South Africa criticised in its genocide case against Israel. AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel believes the slogan spreads fear and incites violence, especially amid ongoing farm attacks:
# International Relations and Cooperation minister, Ronald Lamola, is urging the implementation of the Peace and Security Framework in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. He attended the 12th high-level meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism for the Peace, Security, and Cooperation Framework in Kampala, Uganda. Lamola says the summit also reflected on the current deadly conflict in Sudan and the worrisome political situation in South Sudan, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities:
# Golf: 2027’s Ryder Cup competition will take place at Adare Manor in Ireland from the 17th of September, when the team event will celebrate its centenary. This will be the second time the country hosts the biennial competition after Europe beat the US at the K Club in County Kildare in 2006. This year’s Ryder Cup will take place in New York, also in September, with defending champion Europe again being captained by Englishman Luke Donald. The captains for 2027 haven’t been confirmed yet.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-94-cents and the euro at 20-rand-23-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-17-cents and Bitcoin trades at 108-thousand-64-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-284-dollars-56-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-20-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The meat of brown bears, a protected species in the European Union, could soon be available to eat in Slovakia after the populist government approved new plans. Last month, the cabinet authorised a plan to shoot about a quarter of the country’s one-thousand-300 brown bears in response to some recent fatal encounters. It has been criticised by conservationists and opposition politicians, including in the European Parliament. However, Slovakia’s government is forging ahead with the plan and announced that meat from culled bears would be sold to prevent waste.
