# The Department of Water and Sanitation says it is continuously monitoring the inflow water levels in the Integrated Vaal River System. The department’s spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa, says this is to ensure that necessary precautions are in place in line with dam safety standards and hydrological monitoring systems. She says the water levels at the Vaal Dam are standing at 113.25-percent, Bloemhof Dam 113.09-percent, and 108.31-percent at the Vanderkloof Dam:
# The South African Independent Power Producer Association says the review of 82 tariff codes for solar, wind and battery has arisen unexpectedly, with little clarity as to how tariffs will lead directly to localisation. The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa is reviewing the codes, which include everything from solar panels and generators for wind turbines to lithium-ion batteries and aluminium. The association says without consistent demand in the Integrated Resource Plan, this effort is futile.
# Firefighters at the Vatican installed a chimney on top of the Sistine Chapel to be used during the conclave that begins on 7 May. Cardinals vote in secret for a new pope and reveal to the waiting world the outcome by burning the ballots in a special stove, with the chimney emitting black smoke if no one has been elected, or white smoke if there is a new pope. Cardinals from around the world have been called back to Rome following the death of Pope Francis on 21 April.

His Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid said it would be impossible to completely shield Suryavanshi from public attention, but the teenager would have to find a way to cope with it with support from people close to him. Suryavanshi smashed 101 off 38 balls in Monday’s Indian Premier League match against Gujarat Titans. It is the second-fastest century in IPL history and the teenager is already considered the new superstar of Indian cricket.

Gold sells at three-thousand-359-dollars-41-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 61-dollars-92-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Tygerberg Hospital and the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in the Western Cape urges the public to be aware of the hidden dangers of potassium permanganate, a chemical still widely used in many homes and traditional medicine. They warn that swallowing potassium permanganate can cause burns, internal injuries, or even death. Tygerberg’s Carine Marks, urged parents and caregivers to use it only on the skin and to keep it out of children’s reach:
