Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# President Cyril Ramaphosa is steadfast in maintaining South Africa’s policy of active non-alignment
# The Save SA Civic Movement accuses AfriForum and Solidarity of advancing the legacy of apartheid
# And Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg dies at the age of 39
# President Cyril Ramaphosa has reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to the policy of active non-alignment. He participated in a dialogue at the Goldman Sachs Conference in Johannesburg. The dialogue focused on issues such as economic growth, structural reforms, and international relations. Ramaphosa says South Africa won’t be drawn into taking sides in conflicts around the world, including the Russian-Ukrainian war, especially by global powers:
# The Save South Africa Civic Movement says it is clear that AfriForum and Solidarity intend to carry on with the legacy of apartheid while pretending to be victims. The organisations met with representatives of US president Donald Trump’s administration in Washington, advocating for increased pressure on ANC leaders over farmer murders, the Expropriation Act and the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act. The movement’s spokesperson, Tebogo Mashilompane, says they are disgusted by the false narratives being told by AfriForum and Solidarity:
Meanwhile, Trump is furious over a disparaging new tell-all book about him, and threatens to sue authors and media outlets that use anonymous sources. He has made suing people an integral part of his brand as he made his way up from New York real estate mogul to the US presidency twice, and this time he is taking aim at the common practice of books and news stories using unnamed sources. Trump is also famously contemptuous of mainstream media in America, which he routinely labels the fake news media.
# Soccer: Liverpool defeated Newcastle two-nil to move 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister secured the win for the Reds, taking another big step towards the title. Arsenal’s title hopes are all but over after a goalless draw with third-placed Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Manchester City defeated Tottenham one-nil to move back into the top four. Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, says they are not thinking about the title:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-46-cents and the euro at 19-rand-33-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-39-cents and Bitcoin trades at 86-thousand-102-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-887-dollars-13-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-33-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star, Michelle Trachtenberg, has died at the age of 39. According to the New York City Police Department, she was found unconscious and unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment and was pronounced dead by emergency medical services on the scene. Police say criminality is not suspected in her death. Trachtenberg starred in movies including 17 Again with Zac Efron and Matthew Perry, Ice Princess, and Eurotrip.
