# Deputy Police minister Polly Boshielo is joining the Limpopo government in support of a statutory rape case at the Magistrate’s Court in Seshego. The accused, a 28-year-old man, is the father of the baby of a 13-year-old girl who gave birth at the local hospital on Christmas Day. Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba confirmed that Boshielo will be accompanied by two MECs.
# The DA in the Western Cape has strongly condemned the alleged racist incident that recently took place on a local FlySafair flight. The party’s Tertuis Simmers says during the heated altercation, a passenger reportedly hurled racial remarks against a member of the coloured community. He says the DA will lay a charge of crimen injuria at Bishop Lavis police station in Cape Town today against the woman:
# The Garden Route District Municipality in the Southern Cape says firefighters managed to contain a wildfire at Jongensfontein. Spokesperson Herman Pieters says crews made excellent progress in flushing perimeter lines, with no significant hotspots remaining. He says these areas may still produce smoke due to wind and heat. He adds that in Swartberg Pass and near De Kombuys and the Koos Raubenheimer Dam, fires continues to exhibit active lines in inaccessible mountainous areas:
# Tennis: Twenty-four-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic wants more transparency around doping suspensions, suggesting double standards. The Serbian agrees with Australian player Nick Kyrgios, who said earlier integrity in the sport was awful. This followed after high-ranking players Jannik Sinner of Italy and Iga Swiatek of Poland received very lenient sanctions for violations this year, while Simona Halep of Romania was banned for nine months earlier. Djokovic says players had been kept in the dark throughout the respective processes.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-61-cents and the euro at 19-rand-48-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-51-cents and Bitcoin trades at 93-thousand-646-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-615-dollars-62-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 73-dollars-67-cents a barrel.
# And finally: American scientists finally identified skeletal remains of a young child found in Hawaii over a decade ago. It was confirmed the remains belonged to Mary Sue Fink, who was born in April 1959 and died between the ages of two and six. Information surrounding her death remains vague. Mary’s remains were found in June 2014 and the information was entered into the US’ national database for missing persons. Othram Labs in Texas found a possible relative, which led to Mary’s eventual identification.
