# The US Chamber of Commerce says South Africa’s G20 presidency represents a landmark moment for Africa’s role in shaping the global economic and policy agenda. South Africa assumed the presidency on Sunday, becoming the first African country to lead the G20 since its creation. The president of the chamber’s US-Africa Business Centre, Kendra Gaither, says South Africa’s leadership comes at a critical time as businesses and governments alike seek solutions to pressing global challenges, including sustainable economic growth.
# The Department of Water and Sanitation says it has put measures in place to release water from the backup Sterkfontein dam to augment water supply for Gauteng and surrounding regions. The water level of the Vaal Dam currently nears the critical 18-percent mark. The department’s spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa, says it takes about three to four days for water released from Sterkfontein Dam to reach the Vaal Dam:
# Union Giwusa says there seems to be no end to the volatility of oil prices. The Automobile Association has warned motorists to expect mixed fuel price changes tomorrow. While the price of 93-octane petrol may decrease by seven-cents, 95-octane will likely increase by three-cents per litre. Diesel and illuminating paraffin prices are also expected to rise. Giwusa’s spokesperson, Koketso Phasha, says motorists will have a bleak festive season:
# The Stellenbosch University council has adopted a motion through a majority vote, accepting the explanation by its chair and vice-chancellor regarding the report on the closure of the controversial Wilgenhof residence. Vice-chancellor Wim de Villiers and council chairperson Nicky Newton-King were accused of altering the report after it had been finalised. The council acknowledged that the two had erred in not informing it about amendments to the report. The council also reaffirmed its earlier decision that the residence must be closed and reopened as a re-imagined male residence.
# Motorsport: Mexican Sergio Perez is reportedly set to lose his driver’s seat at Red Bull after this weekend’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The 34-year-old has scored only 152 of Red Bull’s 581 constructors points, and is 227 points behind his teammate, world champion Max Verstappen. According to reports, the contract extension Perez signed in June means he cannot be sacked outright, but can be moved into an ambassadorial role within Red Bull. RB drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson are the leading candidates to replace Perez.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-10-cents and the euro at 19-rand-1-cent. One British pound costs 22-rand-94-cents and Bitcoin trades at 95-thousand-580-dollars.
