BULLETIN 14 November 12 pm
Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Julius Malema says no one will threaten the existence of the EFF
# Giwusa calls for the rescuing of over four-thousand illegal miners trapped in North West
# And US inflation edges higher, complicating plans to cut interest rates
# EFF leader Julius Malema says he is not intimidated or scared by former president and MK Party leader Jacob Zuma, adding that he is ready to fight. This follows an exodus of prominent EFF members to the MK Party, including the EFF’s former deputy president, Floyd Shivambu. Speaking on the party’s podcast, Malema says there is no way anyone is going to threaten the existence of the EFF and then becomes a friend:
# Union Giwusa is demanding the immediate rescuing of illegal miners trapped underground in a disused gold mine in Stilfontein, North West. According to police, about four-thousand-500 illegal miners and several dead bodies are stuck underground. Giwusa’s spokesperson, Koketso Phasha, says they admit zama-zamas are a serious problem in the country’s mining sector:
# US consumer inflation edged higher last month, spurred by an increase in housing costs, complicating the US Federal Reserve’s plans to cut interest rates. The consumer price index rose to 2.6-percent in October, up from 2.4-percent in September. The increase puts a slight spanner in the works of the Federal Reserve, which recently began lowering interest rates in response to easing inflation, cutting by an additional quarter percentage-point last week.
# Golf: Rory McIlroy says he still regards this season as a success despite failing to end his decade-long major drought this year. The four-time major winner from Northern Ireland will tee off in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai today. McIlroy, who has won three tournaments this year, says even though he may not have achieved all of his goals for 2024, he is still pleased with how he has played overall:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-23-cents and the euro at 19-rand-24-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-13-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-435-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-558-dollars-38-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-4-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Britain’s Magic Circle has launched an appeal to track down a woman it expelled over three decades ago for posing as a man to gain admittance to the formerly male-only magicians’ society. The London-based international magic organisation now wants to apologise to Sophie Lloyd who was ejected in 1991. Efforts to locate her have so far drawn a blank. Lloyd posed as Raymond Lloyd for 18 months and unmasked herself as a woman when the organisation voted to admit women in 1991. Members were angry at her deception and kicked her out.
