# Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt following the killing of six people in Godini village near Qumbu last night. Four people were injured. It is believed the victims were members of the community policing forum. This incident comes just over a week after 18 people were gunned down in Lusikisiki. Spokesperson Majola Nkhohli says the motive for the latest shooting is still unclear at this stage:
# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the escalating situation in the Middle East is of grave concern, as it threatens to plunge the region into a war in which civilians will inevitably bear the greatest brunt. Today marks the first anniversary of Hamas’s 7 October attacks on Israel, in which about one-thousand-200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage. In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa says South Africa remains committed to the peaceful resolution to ending the occupation of Palestine, upholding the tenets of international law, and advancing social justice.
Meanwhile, the US has experienced more than ten-thousand antisemitic incidents since Hamas’s attacks on Israel a year ago. This is according to preliminary data from the Anti-Defamation League. The incidents represent a more than 200-percent increase compared with the same period a year before. At least one-thousand-200 of these antisemitic incidents happened on college campuses and another two-thousand at Jewish institutions. The states with the highest number of recorded cases were California, New York, New Jersey and Florida.
# Cricket: Proteas Women opener Tazmin Brits says they are expecting a tough encounter against England in their second T20 World Cup Group B match in the United Arab Emirates today. South Africa defeated the West Indies by ten wickets in their opening match on Friday. The head-to-head record favours England, with 19 wins to South Africa’s four. Brits says they are wary of England’s formidable bowling attack, but they are well prepared:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-36-cents and the euro at 19-rand-5-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-76-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-597-dollars-2-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-651-dollars-75-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 78-dollars-97-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Street Cotton fashion founder show, Abdul Maimela, says he will continue to give senior citizens sewing lessons in Mamelodi West, Pretoria. The 29-year-old has decided to work with the Peu Entle Senior Citizens Club by sharing his fashion designer skills. Specialising in vintage clothing, Maimela says his passion for fashion design started in his school days and he later worked on community projects by hosting street fashion shows. The Peu Entle sewing project started around August.
