# ActionSA has threatened to withdraw its support if the ANC fields its own mayoral candidate in Tshwane. It has been reported that the ANC will put forward Kgosi Maepa as its mayoral candidate to replace the DA’s Cilliers Brink, who was removed by a motion of no confidence last Thursday. ActionSA has stated that it will nominate deputy mayor Nasiphi Moya. Chairperson Michael Beaumont told News24 if the ANC renege on their deal, they are going to find themselves governing without a majority.
# The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse has called for clarity on Gauteng’s three-billion-rand e-toll debt expected to be paid today. Finance MEC Lebogang Maile confirmed the scheduled payment last week. He acknowledged the debt is a significant financial burden, as the province is expected to cover around 20-billion-rand. OUTA’s Wayne Duvenage urges address to wasteful spending and ensuring transparency in the process:
# Militant group Hamas says its leader in Lebanon, Fatah Sharif, was killed alongside his wife and two children in an Israeli strike in the south of the country. This comes a day after Israel carried out large-scale air strikes on Yemen, targeting what it calls military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime. Meanwhile, Palestinian militant group, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, says three of its leaders were killed in an Israeli attack on central Beirut in Lebanon in the early hours of this morning.
# Soccer: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag say he is confident he will be given time by the club, as the pressure ramps up on his position. United suffered a three-nil defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford yesterday, with captain Bruno Fernandes receiving a red card just before halftime. United now has seven points after six Premier League games. Ten Hag, who is in his third season, says he is not concerned about his job:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-10-cents and the euro at 19-rand-12-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-91-cents and Bitcoin trades at 64-thousand-452-dollars-51-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-654-dollars-18-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-6-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Award-winning country music legend, songwriter, and actor, Kris Kristofferson, passed away at his home in Hawaii at the age of 88. He wrote hits such as Me and Bobby McGee and Help Me Make It Through the Night, and won three Grammy awards. Kristofferson was also known for his acting, starring in A Star Is Born opposite Barbra Streisand, in which he won a Golden Globe, and Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. In 2004, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
