# BetterBond says the 25 basis point interest rate cut will reflect positively on the housing market. South Africa’s repo rate will now be eight-percent, and the prime rate 11.50-percent. BetterBond’s, Bradd Bendall, says the lower interest rate brings some much-needed financial reprieve for consumers and makes it possible for more buyers to invest in property:
# Cosatu says it supports the objectives of the South African Broadcasting Corporation Bill, seeking to modernise and overhaul the public broadcaster’s existing legislative governance. The bill aims to strengthen the efficiency of the operations of the SABC. Cosatu’s Matthew Parks says they are however concerned that the bill has omitted to include representation for workers on the SABC board, as is provided in the Broadcasting Act:
# Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says as the province prepares for the implementation of the National Health Insurance, there is an urgency to accelerate the upgrading of existing healthcare facilities and build new ones. Nkomo-Ralehoko says these facilities will add to the existing 37 public hospitals in Gauteng and bring the total to 41.
# Mark Robinson, the Republican governor’s candidate in North Carolina, promises to stay in the race after CNN reported he once called himself a “black Nazi”. He is also said to have proposed bringing back slavery in comments posted on a pornography website. The African American, who denies making the comments, is running for governor of North Carolina in November against Democratic candidate Josh Stein, the state’s attorney general. Robinson, who was endorsed by Donald Trump, reportedly has a history of inflammatory comments.
# Boxing: Two British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois will clash for the IBF belt in front of a record crowd of 96-thousand at Wembley Stadium in London tomorrow. Dubois won the interim IBF title in June and was elevated to world champion status when Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk vacated. Joshua worked himself back into a world-title mandatory challenger position after suffering a second consecutive defeat by Usyk in 2022. Joshua says he is more mature now and ready for the challenge:
