Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The EU grants 628-million-rand to support South Africa’s green-hydrogen development
# The DA in Gauteng says the NHI is a dangerous fantasy
# And, Typhoon Yagi collapses a busy bridge in Vietnam
# The European Union will make available two grants totalling 628-million-rand to promote the sustainable development of the green hydrogen value chains in South Africa. The grants are additional to the EU’s Just Energy Transition Partnership funding with the country. EU Energy Commissioner, Kadri Simson, says the funding shows the EU Global Gateway strategy in action, boosting smart, clean and secure connections in the energy and transport sections:
# The DA in Gauteng says the fact that the country’s richest province cannot run an efficient and caring public health service, shows that the National Health Insurance is a dangerous fantasy. This comes after a patient at Helen Joseph Hospital, Tom London, exposed in a video the facility’s poor conditions and poor treatment of patients. The DA’s Jack Bloom says premier Panyaza Lesufi’s lies about the NHI have been exposed:
# Parents at Hoërskool Die Wilgers in Pretoria have bemoaned what they describe as a racism pandemic at the school. A learner was expelled after calling a black learner the K-word. A father claims the bullying and racial slurs led to his daughter having suicidal thoughts. The Gauteng Department of Education says two boys involved in the incident were charged with misconduct and one was expelled. The parents say as long as government fails to address racism in schools, violent hate crimes will continue to spread unabated.
# A busy bridge in northern Vietnam has collapsed in the wake of super typhoon Yagi. At least three people have been rescued and 13 are missing after the Phong Chau bridge collapsed. Part of the 375-metre structure is still standing, and the military has been instructed to build a pontoon bridge as soon as possible. Yagi is Asia’s most powerful storm this year. It has killed more than 60 people since making landfall in Vietnam on Saturday. More than 240 people have been injured, while some 1.5-million are still without power.
# Motorsport: McLaren Formula One team principal Andrea Stella says they need to capitalise more on the competitiveness of the car. McLaren’s Lando Norris has reduced Red Bull Max Verstappen’s drivers’ championship lead to 62 points, while Red Bull’s advantage over McLaren in the constructors’ standings is eight points. Stella says Ferrari’s return to form is good as having more cars taking points away from Red Bull can be a positive for his team. After this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, there will only be seven more races left this season.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-90-cents and the euro at 19-rand-76-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-42-cents and Bitcoin trades at 57-thousand-316-dollars-31-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-501-dollars-22-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 71-dollars-52-cents a barrel.
