# The SA Zionist Federation has criticised president Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for the annihilation of Israel, labelling it disgraceful. Spokesperson Rolene Marks condemned Ramaphosa’s chant, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free”, during an election rally, interpreting it as a call for Israel’s destruction and ethnic cleansing. Marks noted it’s unprecedented for Ramaphosa to express genocidal intent and mentioned potential legal actions for this hate speech, citing constitutional violations.
# Cosatu is urging all non-essential employers to close their workplaces on election day to ensure all workers can exercise their constitutional right to vote. The second day of special votes is continuing today ahead of election day tomorrow. Cosatu’s Matthew Parks says any worker whose right to vote is threatened by their employer must report this to the police or the union federation:
Meanwhile, over 51-thousand home visits are planned in the Western Cape by Electoral Commission officials for special voting. The IEC has processed nearly 136-thousand special vote applications across the province. Casting her special vote, DA federal chairperson Helen Zille expressed confidence in the party retaining the province:
# Cricket: Gauteng lovers of the game will be treated to a fan park at the Wanderers in Johannesburg during the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the US. They will be able to watch the Proteas’ match against Sri Lanka on Monday, and the encounter between India and Pakistan on the ninth of next month. The matches will be shown on a giant screen, and there will also be a family picnic area, food trucks and activities. The tournament kicks off on Saturday.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-36-cents and the euro at 19-rand-97-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-44-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-887-dollars-25-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-341-dollars-37-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-2-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The University of the Free State will confer an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Education on former deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka at a ceremony next week. She is being recognised for her significant contribution to public service, her commitment to education, and the exemplary leadership roles she has fulfilled nationally and internationally. Mlambo-Ngcuka has been awarded several honorary doctorates by South African higher education institutions as well as from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
