# Former deputy president David Mabuza has termed former ANC president Jacob Zuma’s disciplinary process, a regrettable period in ANC history. He was speaking during a campaign trail in Tshwane. Mabuza emphasised the ANC’s commitment to its constitution in handling the matter. He says Zuma’s actions were his choice and should not be condemned. Mabuza also downplays tensions between Zuma and the party, asserting confidence in the ANC’s electoral prospects over the MK Party:
# Western Cape’s tourism, trade and investment promotion agency, Wesgro’s Convention Bureau has secured 30 new bids for the province in the last financial year. This marks the first time in the bureau’s history that the economic impact of business events secured exceeds the one-billion-rand mark. MEC of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, says the bids which have been secured will fill the event pipeline for the province into 2029:
# The Israel Defence Force has urged Palestinians in eastern parts of Rafah to move to nearby humanitarian areas, in what appears to be preparation for a ground offensive. About 100-thousand people are affected. Israeli strikes killed at least 29 people across Gaza last night. Israeli Defence minister, Yoav Gallant, says Hamas’s refusal of mediated talks on the release of hostages means military action in Rafah was required. The United Nations has rapidly warned that a ground invasion would mean more suffering and death for displaced Palestinians.
# Cricket: Sri Lanka joined Scotland as the two teams to book the last spots in the Women’s T20 World Cup from the qualifier tournament in Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka recorded a hard-fought 15-run win over the United Arab Emirates in the qualifier semifinal. Scotland beat Ireland by eight wickets to qualify for their first T20 World Cup. The tournament will be held in Bangladesh in October, where Australia will aim for a record seventh title.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-46-cents and the euro at 19-rand-89-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-22-cents and Bitcoin trades at 64-thousand-538-dollars-19-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-319-dollars-25-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-59-cents a barrel.
# And finally: A free Madonna concert on Brazil’s famous Copacabana beach was attended by an estimated 1.6-million fans. The show was the final stop on the 65-year-old’s Celebration Tour, which saw her do 80 shows across Europe and North America. Madonna performed songs such as Like a Prayer, Vogue and Express Yourself for over two hours. Brazilian pop artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, as well as younger musicians from samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, also participated in the show.
