# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the late Reverend Jesse Jackson was an African and South Africa can lay claim to him because of this. In his tribute at the memorial service for the late civil rights leader in Chicago, Ramaphosa said Jackson stood with the people of South Africa during their darkest hour. The president added that Jackson told the world that the struggle for dignity in the United States of America was inseparable from the fight against apartheid and injustice in South Africa:

Meyer emphasised the severe impact that violent crime and stock theft have on farming communities, food security, and rural economic stability:
# U.S. President Donald Trump said he is not interested in negotiating with Iran and raised the possibility that the Iran war would only end once Tehran no longer has a functioning military or any remaining leadership in power. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One yesterday, Trump said the air campaign could make negotiations a moot point if all potential leaders of Iran are killed and the Iranian military is destroyed. He earlier justified the attack by saying Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States.
# And motorsport: George Russell led Mercedes to win the season-opening 2026 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne Albert Park. Russell triumphed over teammate Kimi Antonelli by 2.9 seconds, marking a perfect start to F1’s new technical era. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third, followed by Lewis Hamilton in fourth. Reigning champion Lando Norris finished fifth, while Max Verstappen recovered to sixth after starting at 20th position on the grid.
