# Madlanga Commission chief evidence leader, advocate, and senior counsel, Terry Motau, confirmed that he was engaged in talks regarding his future at the commission. According to News24, Motau wrote to acting deputy chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga requesting to leave the commission. Motau has yet to finalize his decision while the commission prepares to hear testimony about alleged corruption involving political and law enforcement officials.
# The Department of Social Development says the new online registration and monitoring system for non-profit organisations is a game-changer in combatting illicit financial flows. The department’s acting spokesperson, Sandy Godlwana, says it is aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, and transparency within a sector that is central to South Africa’s social fabric:
# The DA in the Western Cape says it is deeply disappointed by the National Council of Provinces’ decision to reject the dissolution of the Knysna Municipality. The DA’s Dave Bryant says the recommendation by Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning MEC, Anton Bredell, was both necessary and justified in light of Knysna’s ongoing governance collapse. He says by voting against the dissolution, the NCOP has chosen to preserve a coalition government that has repeatedly failed the people of Knysna:
# Kyiv came under heavy drone and missile bombardment early this morning, in what independent monitors said was one of the biggest Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital and surrounding region since the full-scale war began. The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said at least three people were killed and about ten were injured in the city. One of the dead has been identified as a 12-year-old girl. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attack underlined the need for more punitive sanctions against Russia to force it to stop its aggression.
# And sports news:
# Athletics: Athletics: South African road running star Glenrose Xaba continued her good form by wrapping up her third 10km Women’s Challenge Grand Prix with a victory in the Gqeberha leg yesterday. She will be crowned the first South African athlete to win the series three times after the final leg at Mark’s Park in Johannesburg on Sunday, October 7, where she is expected to dominate again.
# And golf: Team Europe delivered a dominant performance at Bethpage Black, sweeping Saturday’s Foursomes and Fourballs sessions to open up a historic 11.5 to 4.5 lead. This seven-point margin is the largest ever entering the final day of singles competition under the modern format. Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Jon Rahm led the European charge against a struggling American side. Notably, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler remains winless. Europe needs just three points today to reclaim the trophy.
