# The DA says it fully supports the chairperson of Parliament’s portfolio Ccmmittee on Police, Ian Cameron’s call for the immediate suspension of all police members arrested or charged with serious criminal offences. The DA’s Dianne Kohler Barnard says they will demand from Police minister, Senzo Mchunu, the immediate suspension of all such members and the revocation of their police clearance to block access to firearms, sensitive systems, and operations:
# The Freedom Front Plus in Ekurhuleni welcomes the metro’s announcement that residents who paid incorrect charges on 1 July will receive a refund. The party says this was due to a technical error in the meter system. The party’s Denise Janse van Rensburg says the most contentious issue is the incorrect basic charge of 142-rand-50-cent, which was deducted upfront for electricity purchases, meaning residents received fewer units than they were entitled to:
# Ukraine has warned an interruption of US weapon shipments will encourage Russia to prolong the war, now in its fourth year. The White House earlier said it had cut off some weapons deliveries to Ukraine. Spokesperson Anna Kelly says the decision was taken to put America’s interests first following a Defence Department review of military support to other countries. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky says the two countries were now clarifying the details on supplies. The Foreign ministry emphasised the need for Kyiv to strengthen its air defence.
# Tennis: Last year’s runner-up, Jasmine Paolini, became the latest star to crash out of Wimbledon. In the first two days, nine of the top 10 seeded men’s and women’s singles players were eliminated. Second-seeded Coco Gauff, third-seeded Jessica Pegula, and fifth-seeded Zheng Qinwen all lost in the first round, while fourth-seeded Paolini was ousted in the second round. On the men’s side, 13 seeded players have alteady been eliminated, with American 12th seed Frances Tiafoe becoming the latest casualty, losing against world number 61 Cameron Norrie.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-52-cents and the euro at 20-rand-69-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-95-cents and Bitcoin trades at 109-thousand-281-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-356-dollars-27-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-8-cents a barrel.
# And finally, the Gauteng Health Department will host the third Stroke Rehabilitation Research Conference in Braamfontein today and tomorrow. Stroke ranks among Gauteng’s top three non-communicable diseases, with over 32-thousand cases referred for physiotherapy and over 105-thousand follow-up sessions since 2019. The department’s spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says the event advocates for advanced stroke rehabilitation through innovations, integration and interventions. He emphasises the event aims to improve stroke care through knowledge exchange:
