Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Julius Malema tells the DA to respect the Presidency or leave government
# The Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for two men following the Gugulethu mass shooting
# And, two more people were arrested over damage to aircraft at a Royal Airforce base in the UK
# EFF leader Julius Malema has slammed the DA for its ultimatum to president Cyril Ramaphosa over the dismissal of Trade and Industry deputy minister, Andrew Whitfield. Malema says the DA must respect government protocol and the presidency. He argues the DA’s complaints are unjustified, given their choice to join a coalition with the ANC. He says if the DA truly opposes corruption, it should leave the government and join the opposition benches:
# Western Cape police commissioner Thembisile Patekile has condemned the mass shooting that left seven men dead at a home in Kanana Informal Settlement, Gugulethu. Patekile says police are in search of two men linked to the murders. The commissioner says that the deceased aged between 26 to 30 were reportedly ambushed while socialising in the kitchen. Three others in the house escaped unharmed:
Police minister Senzo Mchunu has also condemned the incident, describing the Cape Flats as the killing fields of the Western Cape. Mchunu urged police to abandon routine methods and fully implement strategic plans. Operation Shanela 2 has now been launched to target illegal firearms, drugs, and genderbased violence. The minister demanded urgent, decisive action, stressing police must protect communities with no resources spared.
# A decomposed body of an unidentified man was found under the roof tiles of Hazyview Police Station, Mpumalanga, on Wednesday after a foul smell raised suspicions. Police spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli, says initially thought to be a dead animal, the search uncovered the body during roof tile removal. Preliminary reports suggest electrocution after tools were found. Police authorities are investigating how the man accessed the roof.
# British police said two more people, two males aged 22 and 24, both from London, were arrested yesterday on charges of violating the country’s Terrorism Act. This follows an incident at the Royal Airforce base at Oxfordshire on 20 June when two military aircraft were damaged by a pro-Palestinian activist group, Palestine Action. Uk Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the act of vandalism as disgraceful. The country minster of Home Affairs Yvette Cooper said that Palestine Action will be proscribed as a terrorist organisation following the breach at RAF Brize Norton.
# And soccer: Chelsea beat a ten-man Benfica thanks to three late extra-time goals in an extraordinary Club World Cup last-16 match that lasted more than four hours. It included a near two-hour delay for extreme lightning and thunder storms. Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the second half of extra time in Charlotte, North Carolina, eventually saw Chelsea through to the quarter-finals. Chelsea next face Palmeiras in the quarter-final in Philadelphia on Friday.
