BULLETIN 28 June 11 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The IFP urges president Ramaphosa to fire minister Nkabane
# Eskom’s power system remains stable
# And Golf: Aldrich Potgieter is still in the running in Detroit
# The IFP says president Cyril Ramaphosa should remove Higher Education and Training minister Nobuhle Nkabane to restore stability and public trust. The party argues Nkabane’s handling of the Sector Education and Training Authority board appointments lacked transparency, and her failure to respect parliamentary processes signals a serious breakdown in governance. The IFP’s Sanele Zondo criticised the minister for wrongly naming advocate Terry Motau as the head of an advisory panel.
# Eskom says the power system remains stable and resilient despite increased demand due to cold weather. Sufficient emergency reserves are available and strategically deployed during peak hours. Eskom plans to return two-thousand-450-megawatts to service by Monday evening. Spokesperson Daphne Mokoena says diesel use will decline as more units return from long-term repairs. The Winter Outlook shows load-shedding is unlikely unless unplanned outages exceed 13-thousand-megawatts:
# Four children have died in a devastating fire that broke out in a house in Villa Liza township, Ekurhuleni. Emergency officials say the children were burned beyond recognition. Authorities responded to the scene after receiving a distress call and found the shack engulfed in flames. Investigations are underway as the cause of the blaze, which occurred last night, remains unknown.
# US Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the peace agreement signed between Rwanda’s foreign minister, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s foreign minister, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, in Washington, DC. Rubio praised the hard work of both countries and partners like the African Union and Qatar. He noted ongoing efforts and upcoming meetings to finalise the protocol for lasting peace in the region after three decades of conflict:
# Golf: South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter, who broke the Detroit Golf Club course record in round one, is two shots off the lead after the 2nd round of the Rocket Classic. American Philip Knowles shares the lead with countrymen Chris Kirk and Andrew Putnam. The course record was bettered again yesterday, this time by Jake Knapp, who fired 66 in a bogey-free round with nine birdies and an eagle, breaking the mark of 62 set by Potgieter and American Kevin Roy on Thursday.
# And finally: SANParks will begin a phased reopening of trails in Tokai and Silvermine within Table Mountain National Park, near Cape Town, from 1 July, following the April fire that affected two-thousand-800 hectares. Silvermine Gate 2 and Upper Tokai will reopen, excluding Level 4 and 5 trails. Silvermine Gate 1, including the dam and Riverwalk, remains closed until later in the year. SANParks urges public cooperation for safety and restoration, and will launch a Safe Hiking Campaign to support the reopening process.
