# Minister Lamola is concerned about escalating global tension
# Canada’s Parliament passes a bill to reduce dependence on the US
# And rugby: Siya Kolisi is injured and Jessie Kriel takes over the Boks’captaincy for the Barbarians clash
# International Relations and Cooperation minister, Ronald Lamola, has warned that the current global dynamics and state rivalries are fuelling fragmentation, with economic decoupling and proxy conflicts undermining global stability. He addressed a high-level session during the third G20 sherpa meeting in North West. Lamola says systemic challenges must be addressed to reclaim a global rationality that builds on stability, peace, certainty, and sustainability:
# The EFF has strongly rejected the appointment of the Industrial Development Corporation board, calling it a clear case of patronage and a sign of ongoing corruption. The party has slammed the appointments of Ayanda Dlodlo, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and Sydney Mufamadi, saying they demonstrate how the ANC continues to hijack state institutions to reward political loyalty rather than competence. The EFF says the capture of the IDC board is an attempt to maintain ANC control and to continue using public institutions as personal ATMs.
# Free State police have confirmed that a Grade 11 learner from Martie du Plessis School in Bloemfontein, Kamogelo Baukudi, has been found alive in Wepener this morning. He was abducted by two men who purported to be policemen when he was driving home from school on Vereeniging Drive on the fifth of this month. Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says Kamogelo was found following a coordinated rescue operation:
# Canada’s Parliament has passed the One Canadian Economy Act, which aims to remove trade barriers, expedite nation-building projects, and unleash economic growth. This legislation is seen as a measure to counter US president Donald Trump’s tariffs. Trump has imposed tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminium and its auto sector. Prime minister Mark Carney says the government will now have the sweeping powers to approve projects that are in the national interest:
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has been forced to make a late change to his team to face the Barbarians in Cape Town tomorrow. Captain Siya Kolisi has been withdrawn due to a niggle, and Jesse Kriel will captain the side. Erasmus has drafted Marco van Staden straight into the starting lineup as a replacement for Kolisi, and he will partner Vincent Tshituka and Jean-Luc du Preez in the loose trio. The rest of the team stays the same.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-77-cents and the euro at 20-rand-84-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-43-cents and Bitcoin trades at 107-thousand-483-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-288-dollars-2-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 67-dollars-11-cents a barrel.
