BULLETIN 8 June 11 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The Freedom Front Plus says whistle-blowers should enjoy protection
# Donald Trump says his relationship with Elon Musk is over
# And finally, caretakers dress up as bears to raise a cub
# The Freedom Front Plus says in a country like South Africa, where corruption is rampant, it is of the utmost importance to protect whistle-blowers in every possible way to safeguard their lives and futures. FF Plus’ Philip van Staden says the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development’s draft document outlining proposed reforms for whistle-blower protection has still not been finalised:
# Agriculture minister, John Steenhuisen says his department has ordered more than 900-thousand doses of vaccines to the value of 70-million-rand to curb foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks in the country. He says animals will be vaccinated in all areas that the department has prioritised. Steenhuisen says Limpopo and Mpumalanga will also be conducting their routine vaccinations that are conducted three times a year and some of the vaccine will go to Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal:
Meanwhile, the agricultural organisation, TLU SA says government has the responsibility to manage and control the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in the country. This follows new outbreaks of the disease reported in Newcastle and Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, which have also spread to Mpumalanga and Gauteng, via auctions. The organisation’s Bennie van Zyl says the quarantine of animals affected by the disease will impact the selling of cattle:
# US President Donald Trump says his relationship with Elon Musk is over and he has no wish to mend the damaged ties. Trump’s comments to NBC News were the latest since the epic fallout between him and Musk. The tech billionaire, who donated millions to Trump’s election campaign and became a White House aide, publicly criticised the president’s tax and spending bill. A majority of Republicans have since fallen in line behind the president. When asked about the prospect of Musk backing Democratic candidates that run against Republicans, Trump said he would face “serious consequences”.
# Tennis: The world number one Jannik Sinner will face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz later today in the most eagerly anticipated men’s singles final at Roland Garros since the start of the Rafael Nadal era 20 years ago. Italian top seed Sinner has been impressive since his return from a doping ban last month and charged into the final without dropping a single set in his six matches in Paris. Alcaraz, who is attempting to become only the third man to retain his Roland Garros title this century, has won the last four encounters with Sinner.
# And finally: Caretakers at the San Diego Humane Society are wearing gloves, a fur coat, and a bear mask while raising an orphaned black bear cub. The cub was found by campers in California’s Los Padres National Forest in April and taken in by the humane society after his mother couldn’t be found. It is one of the youngest black bear cubs the organisation has ever cared for. The goal is to eventually release the cub back into the wild, so the bear costumes worn by his caretakers reduce the risk of him imprinting on humans.
