# Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says government is not concerned about the threat of weekly protests against undocumented immigration. March and March founder, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, has vowed to protest every week for the next six months in an attempt to strong-arm the government into meeting their demands. Ntshavheni says police have been managing demonstrations throughout June and are prepared to continue:
One person has meanwhile died and eleven have been injured when a bus transporting passengers from KwaZulu-Natal to the repatriation camp in Musina, Limpopo, overturned on the N1, approximately four kilometres south of the Beitbridge border post. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue. The spokesperson of Limpopo’s Department of Transport, Mashudu Mabata, says the bus was carrying undocumented Malawian immigrants:
# The South African Police Service has dismissed Brigadier Rachel Matjeng, who is one of 12 officers linked to the 228-million-rand Medicare24 SAPS tender scandal. Her dismissal follows an internal disciplinary process in which she was found guilty on multiple counts of serious misconduct arising from her relationship with alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala. Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says corruption, criminality and any form of collusion with criminals have no place within SAPS:
Moving abroad:
# Prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, says Israel will attack Iran again if needed, warning it will act to prevent Tehran from rebuilding its nuclear and missile capabilities. This is despite a memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran last month, which includes a cessation of hostilities and sanctions relief. Israel has repeatedly expressed opposition to any agreement with Tehran. Netanyahu says the Israeli Defence Force will maintain a proactive posture against external adversaries.
# Soccer: Julian Nagelsman wants to stay on as Germany’s coach despite the four-time champion being eliminated during the round of 32 of the World Cup. Their unexpected demise to Paraguay was the first time Germany ever lost a penalty shoot-out at a World Cup. Nagelsman’s contract stretches to the European Championship of 2028, but he is under pressure, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp touted as a possible replacement. Nagelsman says he has a lot of quality young players in the squad for the road ahead.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-43-cents and the euro at 18-rand-73-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-76-cents and Bitcoin trades at 58-thousand-555-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-962-dollars-35-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-91-cents a barrel.
