# The IEC has released the fourth-quarter political funding donations disclosure report for the 2024/2025 financial year, with the total value of declared donations amounting to 14.18-million-rand. During the period from January 1st to March 31st 2025, the ANC received 7-million-rand, declaring two donations: four-million-rand from Chancellor House Trust, and three-million-rand from Naspers Limited. The DA received 6.2-million-rand and ActionSA one-million-rand. The IEC says it expects the donations to increase leading into next year’s local government elections.
# The GOOD Party says the establishment of a commission of inquiry into apartheid-era crimes effectively places the Thabo Mbeki administration and the National Prosecuting Authority on trial for miscarriages of justice. The commission will probe whether there were attempts made to influence the police or the NPA not to investigate and prosecute cases identified by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. GOOD’s secretary general, Brett Herron, says the commission will also investigate whether there should be payments for affected families:
# The main suspect in the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale was shot and killed by police in KwaZulu-Natal this morning. Her body was discovered in Lombardy West in Johannesburg on Sunday. KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, says they received information that one of the suspects was hiding at a residential complex in Amanzimtoti. He says when officers announced their arrival, the suspect shot at them and they returned fire, fatally wounding him:
# The United Nations has warned that soaring civilian casualties and a worsening humanitarian crisis could derail a diplomatic end to the war in Ukraine. Last weekend, Russia conducted its largest wave of attacks in Kyiv, with record numbers of long-range missiles and drones, killing dozens of civilians. The UN’s Rosemary DiCarlo says international humanitarian law strictly prohibits attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, adding that they are unacceptable and indefensible:
# Soccer: Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos omitted several regulars from his squad for international friendlies against Mozambique and Tanzania early next month. He says this will represent opportunities for new players. The squad of 23 includes nine players from Orlando Pirates, while no player from Mamelodi Sundowns was included. The Pretoria club will represent South Africa at the Club World Cup in the US from the 15th of next month. Bafana plays Tanzania in Polokwane next Friday, and Mozambique in Pretoria four days later.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-85-cents and the euro at 20-rand-24-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-4-cents and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-844-dollars.
