Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# More South African soldiers will be repatriated from the DRC
# Minister Kubayi says Shivambu cannot be charged for visiting Bushiri’s church in Malawi
# And Netball South Africa’s president is suspended by the world body
# Defence minister Angie Motshekga has announced that plans are underway to safely repatriate South African National Defence Force soldiers deployed in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The return depends on progress in ceasefire negotiations between warring factions. Speaking at the Rand Easter Show in Johannesburg, Motshekga stated that logistics are being finalised, including potential routes due to the closure of Goma Airport:
# Justice minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu cannot be legally charged for attending an Easter service at Shepherd Bushiri’s church in Malawi. South Africa is currently trying to get the pastor and his wife, Mary, extradited to stand trial on various charges. Kubayi says Shivambu visited in his personal capacity. She did label the visit a blatant disrespect to the legal system, stating that Shivambu’s actions undermine South Africa’s judiciary and embolden fugitives:
# A steady rise in northbound traffic towards Gauteng is expected today as travellers return home after the Easter Weekend. N3 Toll Concession’s Thania Dhoogra says congestion will increase from this morning and last until 8 pm. The Road Traffic Inspectorate may enforce special measures along Van Reenen’s Pass. Dhoogra urges motorists to stay alert, plan ahead, and adjust to changing conditions for their safety and convenience:
The Limpopo Tourism Agency has meanwhile reported that over two-million visitors flocked to the province this Easter Weekend, surpassing previous records. CEO Moses Ngobeni attributes the surge to the return of the Zion Christian Church’s pilgrimage to Moria after a five-year hiatus due to Covid-19. The St Engenas ZCC also resumed its Easter pilgrimage, further boosting tourism numbers. Ngobeni notes that local communities are benefiting economically, with increased activity in townships and villages.
# And World Netball has provisionally suspended Netball South Africa’s president, Cecilia Molokwane, pending a disciplinary hearing. The local body says it is unaware of the specific charges and that vice-president Mami Diale will serve as acting president. Molokwane, also president of Africa Netball and a World Netball board member, was preparing to run for a third term this year. It is alleged she sidelined officials opposing her re-election. World Netball warns Netball SA could face suspension if Molokwane continues in her role.
