# Eskom warns Nersa against a tariff delay
# And soccer: Bafana Bafana awaits the AFCON Morocco 2025 draw in Rabat
# Deputy president Paul Mashatile has urged Public Works minister Dean Macpherson to resign if he opposes the Expropriation Act. The Act has received severe political backlash since president Cyril Ramaphosa signed it into law. Speaking in the Free State, Mashatile said that all appointed ministers must adhere to the directive of the president and the laws of the country. The deputy president emphasised the ANC’s commitment to economic transformation and addressing inequality, asserting the Act’s role in closing socio-economic gaps.
Meanwhile, the minister of Land Reforms, Mzwanele Nyhontso, suggests renaming the Expropriation Act to the Redistribution Bill, emphasising its role in returning land to African people. Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Nyhontso called for collaboration with Public Works to accelerate redistribution but warned of a lengthy process and cautioned against land grabbing, urging patience and adherence to legal frameworks:

The proposed retail tariff plan seeks to align tariffs with self-generation and wheeling trends, ensuring fair revenue recovery. Eskom insists the adjustments won’t increase revenue but will reallocate costs. However, critics warn the changes could harm municipal distributors, penalise rooftop solar users, and create market instability.

Towana Looney received the experimental organ in November after spending nearly eight years on the organ transplant list with little hope of finding a match. She left the hospital just eleven days after her operation and is in New York for another month of observation before heading home to Alabama. Only four other Americans have received pig organs and none lived for more than two months.
# And soccer: Bafana Bafana are eagerly awaiting their group placement for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, following an impressive top finish in their preliminary group. They led Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan, marking their 12th AFCON appearance. Captain Rowen Williams expressed confidence in their readiness to build on last year’s third-place finish in Ivory Coast as 24 nations prepare for the historic tournament:
