# Cosatu president Zingiswa Losi has endorsed calls to renew the ANC. This follows ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa’s appeal to strengthen party branches after losing the majority vote in May. Ramaphosa urged the ANC to reclaim its former glory. Speaking at the sidelines of the party’s 113th birthday celebrations in Khayelitsha, she echoed the need for the party to revisit its foundations and address past mistakes:
# The death toll in the Pienaar township tavern shooting has climbed to eight, as two of the six injured succumbed to their wounds in hospital. Mpumalanga police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli confirmed a 72-hour manhunt is underway to trace the suspects. He says the motive for the attack, which claimed six lives on the scene yesterday morning, remains under investigation:
# The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for disruptive rain and severe storms expected today. Heavy rain is forecast for KwaZulu-Natal, with severe thunderstorms anticipated in Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Meanwhile, the western parts of the country are expected to experience warm and hot weather, while the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape may face extreme fire danger conditions. Provinces like Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the Eastern Cape can expect various weather patterns, ranging from thunderstorms to scattered showers and cooler temperatures.
# Two trams collided in Strasbourg in eastern France on Saturday, causing dozens of injuries. Authorities said the accident took place during the afternoon in a tunnel leading to the station near the city’s central train station. Emergency services deployed 130 firefighters, 50 rescue vehicles and established a wide safety perimeter. Around 50 people were in a state of relative emergency, with injuries such as scalp wounds, clavicle fractures and knee sprains. The exact cause of the collision was unclear but local media reported one of the trams was reversing at the time.
# And tennis, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic says Andy Murray has a unique perspective on his game, having been rivals for over 20 years. Murray will be sitting in Djokovic’s coaching box for the first time in an official match at the Australian Open on Monday when the record ten-time champion meets 19-year-old American Nishesh Basavareddy in his opener. Djokovic says Murray knows the evolution of his game including the weaknesses and strengths:
